The Best Cannabis Strains for Creativity

Cannabis has been given credit for the creativity behind many great artists, from a wide range of fields. Studies have backed up the claim that cannabis can help to increase creativity. Today, there are many strains of cannabis available and it stands to reason that some are better at bringing out the user’s creativity that others are.

In this post, we’ll take a look at some of the best strains some people have purported to spark creativity, individual experiences may vary. As the feelings are subjective and each person reacts differently, these strains are presented in no particular order. They represent the names that come up the most when people talk about what helps them get their creative juices flowing.

Durban Poison

This is a pure Sativa strain that originally comes from the South African city of Durban. It was brought to America in the 1970s and has been a favorite ever since. The strain provides an uplifting head high that is great for not only boosting your creativity but keeping you focused and productive as you work on your art.

Amnesia Haze

This is a hybrid strain with a Sativa to Indica ratio of around 80:20. Its high Sativa ratio makes it great for keeping you energized as you flex the creative muscles that it will bring out of you. Amnesia Haze is a two-time Cannabis Cup winner, so you know it is a quality strain.

Jack Herer

Named after author and cannabis activist Jack Herer, this strain is one of the most popular strains in the country. It is also a name that comes up frequently when a discussion of creativity inducing cannabis comes up. It is a Sativa-heavy hybrid and like all Sativa-heavy strains will leave you clear-headed and energized as you get busy creating.

Tangie

Named after tangerines because its strong and sweet flavor evokes citrus overtones, this is another Sativa dominant hybrid. It is something of a sequel to the popular Tangerine Dream strain that was once very popular. It was first created in Amsterdam but has since become popular worldwide. In addition to the clear-headed creativity boost common to Sativa heavy strains, this one is known to provide an extra boost of happiness.

Kali Mist

With a Sativa to Indica ratio of around 90:10, this strain is especially Sativa heavy. It is another name that comes up very frequently among a wide range of users when discussing the most creativity-friendly cannabis strains. It is good at keeping the artist laser-focused on their work and is often used for meditation and Yoga for the same reason.

Chemdog

This is a 50:50 hybrid of Sativa and Indica that has been around for a while. It is used to create Sour Diesel, which also made this list. Its higher Indica content relative to the first six strains mentioned gives it a more relaxing quality than the more Sativa dominant strains.

Slazerbeam

This Sativa dominant strain comes in at 70% Sativa to 30% Indica. It is the result of crossing Super Lemon Haze with Gupta Kush. The name, an obvious play on laserbeam, likely comes from the fact that the strain is well known to help provide laser-like focus, which is very helpful when you are trying to get some creative work done.

Jillybean

This hybrid a cross between Space Queen, which also made the list, and Orange Skunk. It is named after its taste, which is reminiscent of jellybeans. It is Sativa dominant and provides an uplifted and euphoric high to aid in your creative endeavors, while the Indica content provides a mild relaxation.

Blue Dream

Another strain that is Sativa dominant is Blue Dream. This strain is a cross between Blueberry and Haze. This is another one that you’ll find on most shortlists of creativity spawning cannabis strains. Blue Dream will ease you into a euphoric feeling which is made calm by the presence of Indica in the strain.

Space Queen

A parent of Jillybean, mentioned earlier in this post, Space Queen is itself a hybrid. Created from the Romulan and Cinderella 99 strains, this is another strain that is close to 50:50 Sativa and Indica. The mixture makes for the same euphoric but relaxing feeling that such hybrids are known for. Space Queen is famous for its immediate body buzz effect.

Sour Diesel

Fast-acting and energizing this child of Chemdog is a favorite among artists looking for that extra boost of creativity without the glued to the couch feeling that some strains provide. With a 90:10 Sativa to Indica ratio, its low Indica content will keep you alert and ready for whatever your project throws at you.

AK-47

The name makes it sound like it would deliver an intense and hard-hitting experience, but AK-47 provides a mellow and reflective feeling that is perfectly conducive to creative endeavors. It has a 65:35 Sativa to Indica ratio and is made from a blend of Afghani, Colombian, Mexican, and Thai varieties.

Pure Haze

Made by crossing Purple Thai and Haze, this strain features an 85% Sativa and 15% Indica ratio. As the name suggests, it creates a hazy kind of energetic head high accompanied by a slight physical calm as the relatively low amount of Indica kicks in. It has a tendency to make people more social, which could be good if your creative endeavors are a collaborative effort.

OG Kush

This strain has been around since a grower in Florida mixed a strain from California with one from Amsterdam. It has been an American classic ever since and is used in countless hybrids. It is the only Indica dominant strain on this list, but you needn’t worry about being too relaxed to get any work done. OG Kush is well-respected among creative individuals.

Acapulco Gold

The final strain on the list is another Sativa dominant variety. This one is a hybrid that, quite obviously, originates from Acapulco. It is not known which varieties were originally crossed in order to produce it. Acapulco Gold is difficult to grow indoors, which can make it hard to find.
